Mild Cognitive Impairment

In recent years, the syndrome of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has caught the attention of health care professionals. In the US, MCI has a prevalence rate of about 17%, which is double than that of AD (Graham et al., 1997). Petersen and team (2001) noted that those with MCI have a higher risk of progressing to AD. Scientists are studying whether MCI can be a transitional phase between aging and development into AD. The topic of MCI is of interest to scientists and researchers since such knowledge would help in the early detection of AD.
